Johan's Story

Johan Maysonet Peña '25, a MechE major did his summer internship with Instituto Politécnico Nacional in Mexico City, Mexico. The main project and goal of the lab group that Johan was involved in revolves around the design and construction of a 110KW electric Motorcycle.

"I had a very open role in a personal project and various sub projects. I had the opportunity to work on designing and validating simulations in COMSOL Multiphysics that characterized the magnetic behavior and heat transfer in a novel planar inductor 3D model and a classical coil inductor model. These are planned to be implemented in the motorcycle. I wrote a tutorial research paper with my findings. I also supported the design and construction of the only modular dynamometer in Mexico City fit for testing light, heavy, two and four wheel vehicles."

"MISTI Mexico one of the best decisions I have made so far. It has given me new perspectives on a variety of topics that will definitely shape my career going forward. The friendships and work contacts made will help me build the future I desire for myself."
