The MIT-AFRICA Initiative is the first organized public face for MIT engagement in Africa led by the Africa Advisory Committee (AAC), that serves to communicate the breadth of MIT engagement in Africa and provide an entry portal for prospective partners.
Below is the reach of MIT's engagements across the continent. Click here for additional detail.
In addition to this broader role, the MIT-AFRICA Initiative manages the below programs:
Each year, MIT-AFRICA sends MIT student as interns to partner-hosts across Africa. Placements are primarily focused on South Africa, through the MIT-South Africa Program, but also include: Uganda, Ghana, Mauritius, Tanzania and Botswana. Since 2012, over 100 MIT students have participated.
"My summer in South Africa raised my awarness of the diversity of human conditions. Working at a research unit in the largest hospital in the Southern Hemisphere expanded how I understand healthcare systems as well as clinical research."
--Ankita Reddy, 2019, Biology
MIT-AFRICA TRAVEL AWARDS
