Through an annual call for proposals, the funds primarily support travel costs for exchange between a team at MIT and colleagues in universities and research institutes in Brazil.
  • For collaboration with universities and research laboratories in Brazil;
  • Brazilian colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal;
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Brazil and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams;
  • Maximum award (with joint funding): $30,000. Funds are available for projects through partnerships with FAPESP, FACEPE and CNPq.  In past years, approval rates for proposals through these partnerships have been much higher than for proposals to MIT-Brazil alone.

MIT-Brazil-FAPESP joint funding: Projects involving collaboration with Brazilian researchers in the state of São Paulo.

MIT-Brazil-FACEPE joint funding: Projects involving collaboration with Brazilian researchers in the state of Pernambuco.

MIT-Brazil-CNPq joint funding: Projects involving collaboration with Brazilian researchers throughout Brazil who are eligible for CNPq funding.

Please visit these partner institutions' websites (above) for more information. The same budget must be submitted to both partners. Proposals to CNPq may also include, beyond the $30,000 maximum for travel and visits, requests for visiting pre-doctoral and post-doctoral fellows, as well as a full four year doctoral fellowship.
