Irina Prokhorova is a Moscow-born cultural historian, literary critic, editor, publisher and social activist.
In 1992 she established the New Literary Observer publishing house which now comprises three scholarly periodicals and over 80 books per year on literary criticism, philosophy, history, cultural & interdisciplinary studies, contemporary Russian prose and poetry.
In 2004 she co-founded the Mikhail Prokhorov Foundation. Its goal is to provide continuous support of culture in Russian regions, as well as to raise the intellectual level and creative potential of local communities.
Prokhorova is hosting three live radio and TV shows on pressing social and political issues.
Awards: State Prize of the Russian Federation for the New Literary Observer journal in the category “The Best Educational Project” (2002); independent American award Liberty for her contribution to the development of Russian-American cultural relations (2003); Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (France, 2005); Andrei Bely Prize in literature (2006). In 2012, she became the Chevalier of the Order of the Legion of Honour of France.
