Amanda's story

Amanda Tong, a computation and cognition major, worked at Boeing Korea Engineering Technology Center (BKETC), on the Future Production Capability (FPC) team as a front-end engineer intern working on an application that sought to improve supplier oversight, production readiness, and supplier data transparency.

My main task was to develop an interactive and editable Gantt chart within the application that was specific to supplier data. I presented the solution to the consumers, who gave continuous feedback for iteration. The solution is currently deployed and being used by the consumers, and the groundwork I laid for this chart will be used in a future subproject to develop a way to produce production plans. I had the chance to learn a lot technically by developing in Angular for the first time, adapting different libraries to use in the application, and writing front-end unit tests. Personally, I learned a lot about the aerospace manufacturing industry and improved my Korean skills.

"As someone who wants to work in Korea as a software engineer, this exact job was basically what I wanted post-graduation. I thoroughly enjoyed continuing to speak the language, learning about the culture, doing the kind of work I like, and being exposed to a new kind of workplace in Korea. It confirmed to me that working in Korea would be something I want to continue doing."
