Anne's Story

Anne Reidenbach (BS Artificial Intelligence and Decision-Making '28) traveled to Vilnius, Lithuania, in summer 2025 to work at the Ukrainian Center supporting Ukrainian refugee youth.

"The Ukrainian Center at the Vytautas Magnus University in Vilnius, Lithuania, provides programs and services for Ukrainians who have relocated to Lithuania as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war. For my internship, I assisted with their summer events, including their third anniversary celebration and a summer camp for both local youth and kids from Sumy, Ukraine. I also ran an English conversation group for teens in the month of July. Many of my projects involved collaborating with volunteers from other countries - the Ukrainian Center has a strong relationship with the Embassy of Japan in Vilnius and we worked with them to organize Star Festival crafts for the kids." -Anne Reidenbach

“Ukrainian kids and teens who I met during my MISTI internship have a lot in common with their American peers - starting to think about university, they like playing sports, they find ChatGPT helpful on homework - but their childhoods have been almost completely upended by the Russia-Ukraine war. The programs provided by the Ukrainian Center give them a shred of normalcy in their lives. By working there this summer, I was able to be a friendly face for them. Sending MISTI students to the Ukrainian Center channels the power of international cooperation to make an impact in an area where it’s very much needed right now.”
