Emily's story

Emily Alemán '28, an aerospace engineering major, interned in Madrid, Spain, and said that it was a perfect match for her career goals and interests in CubeSats for climate monitoring and emergency response.

"I worked at the Instituto Universitario de Microgravedad "Ignacio Da Riva" in la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. They focus in the design, build and launch of satellites, especially small ones called "Cube-sats". My main contribution was a physics-based simulation and web-based app that models CubeSat solar power generation based on the satellite’s orbit, orientation, panel configuration (including deployables) eclipse periods, and panel-to-Sun angles."

"This MISTI internship was a perfect match for my career goals. This internship gave me real experience that directly connects to what I want to build, and it made me realize I’m capable of figuring it out. I also learned what it truly means to take care of myself independently. It pushed me to become more resourceful, confident, and self-sufficient in ways that everyday college life hadn’t yet demanded."
