MIT – IIT Ropar Seed Fund

The MIT – IIT Ropar Seed Fund supports early-stage international collaborations between MIT and the Indian Institute for Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar).  The Fund will primarily support the development of research projects related to water, food, and/or agriculture that involve collaboration between faculty and researchers at MIT and their counterparts at IIT Ropar.  This seed fund is collaboratively managed by the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) and MIT India. You can read more about this initiative in MIT News.

Through an annual call for proposals, the fund primarily supports travel costs for exchange between a team at MIT and colleagues abroad. The international colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal. Project proposals must be submitted by an MIT PI and the IIT Ropar colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal.  Faculty and research scientists at IIT Ropar may be listed as co-applicants on proposal applications.

This funding may be used for travel, meetings, and workshop costs; funds cannot be used to cover salaries, materials, or equipment.

All general MISTI Global Seed Funds criteria, application, and evaluation procedures apply.

Priority will be given to projects that:

    • present a balanced exchange between the participants
    • demonstrate complementarity between the teams
    • involve undergraduate and graduate students

J-WAFS promotes and supports research at MIT, with a mission to make meaningful contributions to solving the diverse challenges surrounding the world’s food and water needs. Through research funding and other activities, they support the development and deployment of effective technologies, programs and policies to address concerns stemming from population growth, climate change, urbanization, and development.

IIT Ropar has made serious efforts to align its R&D focus with the intent of making a positive impact on the world. We attract some of the best students and faculty that conduct research projects in advanced areas of science and engineering. The Institute has ongoing academic and research collaborations with many national and international universities, in order to keep pace with expanding frontiers of knowledge.
