“My summer in the UK was one of the most fulfilling, empowering, and adventure filled experiences I have had. Not only was I able to work on a meaningful technical project with serious implications for social media, policy, and the ability of malicious actors to spread propaganda online, but I spent nearly the rest of the time exploring new countries, cities, cuisines and cultures. I made new friends from all around the world, and simultaneously learned about myself. I expect that everything I did this summer will influence my academics, research, and personal goals for the rest of my time at MIT and likely beyond.” -Miriam Lubashev
Miriam's Story
Miriam Lubashev (BS Mathematics, Minor in Public Policy '29) traveled to Cambridge, England, in summer 2026 to work in the Influence and Technology Lab at Cambridge University, focusing her research on the detection and prevention online disinformation.
“My internship at Cambridge University gave me a taste of what real software engineering, specifically web development work, looks like day-to-day, allowing me to adjust my future career ambitions.
Additionally, this style of research, where the work itself is quite technical and the results of the work have real implications for social impact, policy, and understanding of global actors, is something I found very satisfying and will strive for in my future research and career.”
