While our typical priority deadline is December 1, we are accepting 2020-2021 applications on a rolling basis. We recommend that you contact us when you apply.
Submit MISTI application, pre-interview questionnaire, resume, and meet with program manager. Contact Amanda Tragert (program assistant) to schedule your meeting.
Summer internships are 10-12 weeks, and longer opportunities are available for 6+ months.
Open to all MIT undergrads and graduate students.
GPA 4.0 or better.
Two recommendation letters.
Relevant experience (UROPs, internships, etc.).
Undergraduate students: minimum two semesters of German or equivalent, with a strong recommendation for at least four semesters (preference will be given in placements to students with four or more semesters).
Graduate students: no language requirement.

Students receive a living stipend for airfare, food, and accommodation.
Students must attend MISTI preparation & training sessions (four in the month of April) and a checkout meeting with the program coordinator or manager.

January (IAP)
Open to MIT sophomores, juniors, seniors and grad students in all disciplines.
Priority may be given to students with German language background, but is not a requirement.
GPA 4.0 or better
Teaching experience and strong interest in education
Students receive a stipend for travel costs. Accommodation is provided by host families or university dorms.
Once selected to participate, students must attend Global Teaching Labs training sessions and a checkout meeting with the program coordinator.

Apply for a year-long undergraduate scholarship from the DAAD

Apply for a HAUS study abroad scholarship available for winter semester (Sept - Feb)

The Fulbright US Student Program offers year-long grants for research/study after graduation. MIT students should contact MIT's Distinguished Fellowships Office in CAPD by early summer to start the application process. Deadline to apply: August (MIT deadline); October (national deadline)
The DAAD Study Scholarship offers students the opportunity to conduct research at a German university or research institute for one year after graduation. Deadline: Nov 4
The Carroll L. Wilson Award provides an opportunity for one or more recent MIT undergraduates to pursue a challenging international activity that would have excited the interest and enthusiasm of Carroll Wilson. His broad-ranging interests are described in a February/March 1985 Technology Review article. Deadline to apply: March 15 for June internships; rolling thereafter
