Sebastian in Madrid

Sebastian's Story

Sebastian Arevalo interned in Madrid, Spain as a researcher at IMDEA Materiales where he focused on the design of light-weight metals using the novel concept of High-Entropy Alloys.

“My contributions were 4 novel alloy compositions tuned using CALPHAD software and powder technologies, all of them proving to be scalable and lighter than current alloys used in the market. I also contributed to the casting process and characterization of 2 of these alloys.”

"I would say that this experience was an important step towards my career goals. I aspire to work in an institute research focused on sustainable materials, and this summer was a small taste of what that looks like. Overall, MISTI Spain was a push towards my academic and career goals. Now, I'm excited to continue that path, while adding more pushes through more MISTI summers in my following years. "
