Zaee's story

Zaee Shah '28, a math with computer science major, developed stronger research skills—from formulating questions to designing experiments and analyzing results—during her summer internship at UCLouvain in Belgium.

"I interned at UCLouvain (Université catholique de Louvain) in Belgium within Professor Julien Hendrickx’s research group, which studies distributed control, multi-agent systems, and optimization. My main contribution was showing that gradient-tracking methods like DIGing, when carefully modified to preserve key invariants, can remain stable and outperform DGD in open systems. I delivered both a simulation codebase and a research report summarizing these findings."

"This has truly been one of the most impactful opportunities of my time at MIT. If I had to recommend a single MIT program above all others, it would be MISTI. My summer at UCLouvain not only allowed me to explore new research directions, but also taught me a great deal about myself—both in clarifying my academic goals and in my own personal development. I’m so thankful I was able to have this experience in college, and it’s only possible because of their generosity."
