Zhiron's story

Computer science and engineering major Zhiron Wu '26 had no prior experience working with databases before her internship at Internet Business Japan in Tokyo, Japan. It was challenging at first, but she had supportive colleagues who walked her through the basics and shared helpful materials to help her complete her tasks.

My time in Japan was truly transformative, not just in terms of professional growth, but also in how I see the world and my place in it. Working at WebStaff allowed me to apply what I’ve learned at MIT in a real-world setting, while also challenging me to grow in unexpected ways. I learned how to collaborate across cultures, adapt to new environments, and navigate unfamiliar situations with confidence. Your support didn’t just fund a summer internship, it opened the door to an experience that has shaped my goals, expanded my perspective, and will stay with me for years to come. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

"This experience helped me realize how important it is for me to continue stepping outside of my comfort zone and seeking out opportunities that challenge me to grow. Living and working in Japan pushed me to become more independent, open-minded, and adaptable, qualities I now want to prioritize in both my personal and professional life. Going forward, I hope to live and work in different countries, continue learning new languages, and build meaningful connections with people from diverse backgrounds."
