Adrienne's story

Adrienne Lai worked at Skytree in the Netherlands over the summer after graduating in 2025 with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering. Her internship experience gave her a strong background for grad school, with a lab working on carbon capture technology, which she would start in the fall.

"Skytree is a direct carbon capture scale-up company in the Netherlands that develops systems to extract carbon dioxide from the air to be used in a variety of applications, including greenhouses, carbonated beverages, and carbon removal. Its system can be implemented in any climate worldwide. For my internship, I am figuring out how to implement an oxygen removal system through a literature review, numerical model, ANSYS computational fluid simulations, and an experiment for verification."

"My favorite part of the MISTI experience was getting to know another country - learning their customs and culture is awesome! It's nice that the place that was once so unfamiliar is familiar. I have loved trying new things—riding a bike and the different foods!"
