Lisa's story

Lisa Vargas '28, a chemical engineering major, stepped out of her comfort zone and adapted to a new cultural and professional environment when she interned at TU Delft over the summer of 2025.

"I did research at Delft University of Technology this summer in Alina Rwei's lab in the Applied Sciences Department under her PhD student, Lena Fasching. My project was focused on optimizing the reliability and stability of a wearable sweat sensor."

"The experience gave me insight into what it would be like to do my PhD in another country. It also helped broaden my horizons about the kinds of work I'm interested in, in the fields of chemical-biological engineering or biomedical devices. I am usually averse to anything to do with electrical engineering. Still, this opportunity showed me that it can be really cool, and I'll definitely consider taking more classes on it at MIT."
