Andre's Story

Andre Hamelberg '24, a chemical engineering and math major, worked with Tutiplast during the summer of 2024. He worked on calculating how much plastic could be recycled from the injection machine. The experience allowed him to use his knowledge in the plastics' chemical makeup and was able to put together a process.

"I held many hats and did a variety of smaller tasks. The most notable task I helped with was calculating how much plastic could be recycled from their machines to ensure they ordered the correct amounts of resin from their suppliers. I weighed all the parts  that came from the plastic injection machines, logged it in an Excel sheet, and verified total weights using an internal program where I could make all the necessary calculations."

"Working at Tutiplast in Manaus was an incredible opportunity that allowed me to immerse myself in a vibrant and dynamic industry. During my time there, I not only gained valuable experience in plastic manufacturing but also explored the rich culture of Brazil."
