Darshdeep's story

Having completed his MEng in Data Science for Engineering Systems, Darshdeep interned at the Neurobionics Lab at the University of Melbourne over the summer of 2025. This experience has made him more certain about pursuing a PhD in brain-computer interfaces.

Darshdeep was working at the Neurobionics Lab, a research group dedicated to advancing neural engineering and neurotechnologies that interface with the human nervous system. "Over the course of my internship, I developed software that could interpret EOG signals in real time. Using this system, I created a game of Snake that could be controlled entirely by eye movements, allowing users to navigate the snake without traditional inputs. I then extended this framework to control a robotic arm, enabling simple four-directional movement based on eye gaze."

"The Neurobionics Lab has been incredibly supportive and invested in interns’ growth. The team not only provided guidance but also gave me the freedom to explore my own ideas and interests, which made the experience both educational and personally meaningful."
