For my internship project I worked with Professor Deza on a topic in deep learning, attempting to make a novel contribution. The quantitative skills I've developed at MIT allowed me to read high-level mathematics papers and bring myself to the research frontier on a subject. I learned, however, how to be flexible and adapt outside of the classroom setting.
I learned that I like traveling, I like open-ended, creative, and theoretical research, I find linguistics and language learning more interesting than I thought, I find macroeconomics and economies of different countries extremely interesting and I think I might fold some of this topic into my studies throughout the year.
Finally, I would be very happy to do another MISTI experience because of this. As I apply to graduate schools this fall, I'm now way more open to applying to masters program in a different country.
