Emilia's story

This internship opportunity at UCLouvain allowed Emilia Szczepaniak '27, a course 6 major, to explore more MISTI opportunities abroad and also consider the idea of completing graduate school abroad.

"Over the summer, I worked in the ICTEAM (Information and Communication Technologies, Electronics, and Applied Mathematics) research center. My topic revolved around using AI to design passive radio-frequency (RF) components, where I started my project studying RF theory and manually designing my own components like couplers with desired parameters that my team was working with."

"This experience allowed me to experience an academic research environment and determine whether I'd like to pursue academia in the future. I also strengthened my skills in Cadence by learning how it's used in work involving radio-frequency and how to run simulations and launch connected tools like ADS. Since I see myself working more in integrated circuit (IC) design and chip production, I can translate what I've learned through my MISTI into future work of interest."
