Gidean's Story

Gidean Karp '28, a physics and math major, learned more about fusion research while at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Also, with the setbacks he's faced while traveling alone, he's ready to take on more challenges through other MISTI programs in the future!

"My internship project centered on continuing a previous master's student's project of applying statistical data analysis tools through a program called StatComp to simulated plasma discharges in order to assess how predictable a given simulation will be and how well it can model real-life plasma discharges. I learned a lot about the physics of fusion and plasma research, and about data analysis and processing."

It was definitely an experience I will never forget, and the lessons I learned will stay with me for a lifetime.
