Sara's Story

Summer away for Sara Koshi '28, a biological engineering major, gave her new insight into the possibility of working and living outside of the US. Her favorite part of it all was being able to fall in love with a new country and culture, and of course, the people.

"During my internship, I used protocols that I had previously learned and practiced via an MIT UROP, specifically cloning protocols. I also applied knowledge I had learned in MIT classes to real-world problems. The skills I developed in the lab was practicing various techniques focused on isolating and analyzing proteins, including ion exchange chromatography, BCA assay, and Pichia transformation."

"This experience supported my academic and career goals by giving me an opportunity to gain more knowledge and experience with lab and computational techniques. Additionally, this experience has greatly improved my ability to communicate in Spanish."
