Kanna's story

Kanna Pichappan '26, a brain and cognitive science major, interned at two medical institutions in India through Aarogya Seva. This experience crystallized her passion for global health work, particularly with South Asian and South Indian communities.

"I served primarily as a medical assistant at both Saradev Eye Hospital and Rangadore Memorial Hospital, institutions that deliver affordable and free healthcare services. My responsibilities included collecting patient histories, taking vitals, dressing wounds, and providing discharge instructions. I also strengthened my collaboration skills by working alongside nurses, physicians, and therapists in the hospital. This insight has become invaluable in shaping my career aspirations."

The experience was incredibly rewarding. The community I worked with in India was welcoming and hospitable. I found myself profoundly happier there. When I arrived in Bangalore, I knew no one—no family, no friends. And yet, I felt more connected to the people, streets, and world around me than I ever had back home. After completing this internship, I would be thrilled to do MISTI India again. This time, for India's culture itself.
