Riya's story

Riya Sahu '29, an electrical engineering with computing major, shared that she was able to explore one side of what her career might look like in the future since she wants to go into application-based EECS work.

"I worked in the School of Computer Science at the University of Bristol, specifically in an assistive technology lab. My primary focus was building NAV-SI, an app that gives customizable information about a blind user's environment for easier navigation."

"I can definitely say that this is a compounding experience for me—I've been able to develop technical skills and an interest in assistive technology that I will take back to MIT and most likely beyond, in my career, as well. This app will be going on the iOS and Android app stores, so my hope is that it can go out to more people who use it to identify their surroundings and navigate them, improving the accessibility of unknown spaces."
