Truman Remenicky in a red helmet at a factory made of steel

Truman's Story

Double majoring in mechanical engineering and physics, Truman '28 gained both personal and professional experience living abroad that showed him the importance of community and that the challenges he faced were valuable in clarifying what he wanted for his career.

"My host organization was the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) in Greifswald, Germany, one of the world’s leading research institutions for fusion energy. IPP operates Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X), the world’s largest stellarator, which is used to investigate the physics and engineering required for future fusion power plants. Working at IPP allowed me to gain hands-on experience with technology I would never have encountered in a classroom and to learn from researchers working on one of the world's largest fusion experiments."

My time at IPP made me realize that I would prefer a faster-paced, more collaborative environment where I can see the results of my work more directly. Going forward, I want to continue challenging myself with new experiences while prioritizing opportunities and places that allow me to grow both inside and outside of work.
