Serena Patel Summer '22

This summer, Serena (M.S. Technology and Policy '23) is interning with the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) in Delhi, India! The goal of her research is to evaluate technical, economic, and social incentives for retrofitting coal plants in India with thermal energy storage (TES). 

Serena shared, "By repurposing existing coal assets in disproportionately burdened communities that are economically tethered to the coal industry, TES retrofits also offer the socio-economic benefit of preserving power plant jobs and local revenue, allowing communities to plan for mitigation strategies to find alternative livelihoods and support economic diversification as India’s energy system transitions."
