A side trip is a trip that you take to another country (or another city/region within your MISTI country) either before, during or after your MISTI experience.

You may not travel to:

  • Any regions or countries under a Level 3 or 4 warning from the U.S. Department of State
  • Any areas of the country where U.S. government personnel is not allowed to travel to (even if the country, region or state is under a Level 1 or 2 warning)
  • You may not book any connecting flights or have a layover through any country or region under a Level 3 or 4 warning from the U.S. Department of State

All side trips must be registered in the MIT Travel Registry.

Your program might restrict all side trips.

If feasible and recommended by your program manager, you should book direct flights to your final destination or with as few connections as possible.
