The Program Manager can advise students about the application process, timeline and documents required. All travellers to Russia require a visa with the exception of some former Soviet Union countries.
Students who require an entry visa to Russia, usually travel on student, business or tourist visas. The application process for each type of visa varies and might include the following list of documents:
- Completed visa application form
- Original passport
- 1 photograph
- Original invitation
- HIV test certificate
- Copy of permanent resident card/US visa status (for Non US passport holders)
- Copy of health insurance card with information coverage in Russia (for Non US Passport holders)
Processing time usually takes at least 12 business days.
Flight
Each student flight is booked by the student.
For summer internships, most students book flights immediately after confirming the dates of their internship with their host.
If you need to change the dates on your ticket, there will be a change fee associated with the date change. It is best to purchase your flight after confirming your dates with your internship host.
Accommodation
MISTI provides resources and advice for housing in Russia. Housing options vary, so start looking early.
1. Host family
Staying with a host family is a great way to immerse yourself into the Russian culture. If you are interested in staying with a host family while you are in Russia, please contact the Program Manager as soon as possible, as matching you with a family takes time.
2. Apartment
It is recommended to look for an apartment through AirBnB or the suggested real estate agency in Russia.
3. University dorm
If you are hosted by a university in Russia, it will be possible to secure a dorm room.
