MISTI offers funded internship and teaching opportunities at companies, research institutes, and universities in Jordan.
Jordan Program Details Preparation & Training
  • Internships
  • Teaching
MISTI matches MIT students with internships and research at leading companies, research labs and universities in Jordan. Internships last from 3 to 6 months.

Application

Unfortunately, we will not have summer internships offered for summer 2020.

Dates and Duration

Summer internships last 10-12 weeks

Timeline

  • Applications are open on the MISTI Portal until February 16 for summer 2018 internships. Please complete Steps 1-3 before setting a meeting with David Dolev (ddolev@mit.edu)
  • December – February: Placement Process
  • February – May : Spring Training
  • May – August: Intern in Jordan!

Eligibility

Open to MIT undergrad and grad students, and recent alumni

Requirements

Students must have a minimum of 4.0 GPA

Students must take a MIT course on the Middle East

Language

Arabic language background is required

Prior to internship, at least one year of Arabic studies, with plans for an additional year upon return. Potential for online language classes funded by MISTI prior to internship is an option

Non-native speakers will also take Arabic classes during internship.

Stipend

Students receive a living stipend for airfare, food, and accomodation.

Preparation

Students must attend all MISTI and MIT-Arab World preparation and training sessions, write a final paper for academic course on Jordan country-related topics and a checkout meeting with the program manager

Internship Opportunities

Opportunities are available in Jordanian universities, start-ups and companies, across disciplines.

MISTI Global Teaching Labs offers a unique opportunity for MIT students to teach STEM subjects in Jordanian high schools over IAP.

Dates and Duration

Four weeks over January 2018.

Students must be available for every teaching day, and arrive in country at least the day before teaching begins.

Location, Teaching Methods, and Subjects

GTL 2018 Placements will include:

  • Teaching robotics and 3D printing minisemesters and CS
  • Teaching biology, chemistry and physics
  • Creating and teaching short-term, self-designed seminars
  • Teaching venture capital management and coding in Scratch to refugee populations
  • Teaching at CS coding bootcamps for refugees

Eligibility

Open to MIT sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students in all disciplines

Language

There are no language requirements for GTL in Jordan

Requirements

GPA 4.0 or better

Teaching Experience and strong interest in education

Funding

Students receive a stipend for travel costs, and accommodation and meals will be provided.

Preparation

Once selected to participate, students will attend the Global Teaching Labs training sessions, the MIT-Arab World GTL Retreat (date TBA), and a checkout meeting with the program manager.
