MIT students are problem-solvers - this is embedded in them from their first day at MIT. Therefore, an outstanding way to harness the potential of our collaboration is to focus an intern on a problem you face, or a developing program which requires some innovative thinking or a fresh perspective. South African hosts benefit by cultivating a globalized work environment which leads to cross-pollination of ideas and new technical capacity. These are critical for innovation and have the goal of promoting economic development both for the host and for South Africa at large.
In turn, MIT students learn from their host and South African colleagues and are transformed by their experience. You can read more about MIT interns and their respective hosts around the globe here.
