What to do

  1. If immediate emergency assistance is needed, call your country's emergency number (if recommended by your program manager). This should be listed on your MISTI Emergency Info Card.
  2. Call ISOS or chat from your cell phone using Wi-Fi.
  3. Contact your program manager so they can provide assistance and support and discuss next steps with you.
  4. If recommended by your program manager, call the local police as soon as possible to report the incident and get help.

Note: Make sure to always carry a photo ID with you.


Remember ISOS also offers emotional support services in case you need them.

 

Medical Emergencies

Don't forget: upon arrival, if you haven’t already done so, figure out where the closest hospital or clinic is in case you need it. You can keep track of this info in your Essential Contact Info handout.

What to do if you or another student is ill or injured

If immediate emergency assistance is needed, call your country's emergency number (if recommended by your program manager). Emergency numbers include 112 (ambulance, fire, and police) in Spain. This should be listed on your MISTI Emergency Info Card.

If the situation is not an emergency, but you need help seeking medical treatment:

  1. Call or chat with ISOS 24/7

  1. Ask your health insurance provider (if using MIT's insurance provider, ISOS will help you)
  2. Ask your host or local friends

Once you've addressed your immediate medical concern

  • Be in touch with your local supervisor or host, especially if you might need to be absent from the program.
  • Let your MISTI program manager know about the situation in case there is any way they can provide guidance or assistance.

Always keep all relevant documentation (original receipts, hospital admission form, etc.) for insurance purposes. Be sure to keep copies for yourself even after you submit a claim.

If you test positive for Covid-19

  • Follow all local directives and guidelines related to quarantine and travel
  • Let your program manager know so they can provide assistance
