Highlighted Internships

FAUNAPHOTONICS - VIRTUAL INTERNSHIP

FaunaPhotonics, an MIT alumni-founded startup located in Copenhagen, Denmark, is working towards a sensor for real-time, automated detection and classification of larval stage salmon lice. Aiming for an early detection of the larval parasites before they attach to the host fish, we hope to improve treatment planning and the use of preventive, non-medical treatment for the farmers.

Your task will be to investigate how larval stage salmon lice registrations could potentially enable better timing of treatments against adult stage salmon lice. Methods commonly used in modern salmon production sites include coordinated fallowing in zones, sea lice skirts around salmon cages, lumpfish (cleaner fish), mechanical and thermal treatments, filtration and collection of sea lice, treatment of salmon cages, laser equipment, feed and medical treatments.

DANFOSS - VIRTUAL INTERNSHIP

At Danfoss RAC R D & E, we’re in the planning process of proposing pilot projects addressing Circular Economy. Circular Design for RAC R D & E is one of the pilot workstreams and we’re looking for a student intern to help us kickstart this! Circular Economy is a systemic approach that addresses the inefficiencies of the present linear model (take-make-waste-dispose) through rethinking the design and proposing new, innovative business models. Limiting the need for extracting raw materials and reducing waste production lies at its core. Circular Economy is set to become the next global megatrend for sustainability and also act as a business driver. The EU Circular Economy Action Plan has been published in March of this year, and we expect the regulations to soon follow in this direction. Therefore, as a company we’d like to be prepared for it and ensure that we remain compliant.

This workstream will have two main projects running in parallel:

1. Measuring the circularity of our existing products and processes

2. Establishing circular design guidelines for our products
