Air travel recommendations for the 21st century.

  • Each students flights are covered either by MISTI or the host. If paid by MISTI, students are reimbursed for their tickets or they might purchase them through an MIT approved agency, check with your program manager.
  • For summer internships, most students book flights in April after they have confirmed their summer internships dates.

Determine dates and purchase flights asap

Options:

  • Purchase flights on any site and get reimbursed
    • MISTI will reimburse the cost of your tickets before you leave: Estimated budget is around US$800 roundtrip ticket from the US – Need approval from Griselda before purchasing if it is a lot more. You can fly from any airport in the US. Try to avoid more than one connection.
  • Recommended! Purchase flights through Travel Collaborative

    • They will direct bill us – no need to put funds upfront

Tips 

  • Always track prices on incognito mode 
  • Be flexible on dates and locations if you can 
    • Sometimes flying one day earlier or later can make a big difference in flights 
    • A nearby city (accessible by train or bus) may have a much cheaper ticket 
  • Book at the right time 
    • Flight prices are historically cheaper to purchase on weekdays vs weekends
