Amelia Paine, Materials Science and Engineering '18

From the internship experience, I have become a better researcher, and I have picked up skills that will definitely come in handy at MIT and beyond. I hope to continue working on projects involving mathematical modeling of biological processes. I also became more independent, and gained the courage to speak languages that I am not familiar with - something unavoidable when you're in an environment where not everybody speaks English!  Finally, with so much nature near Zurich (there was a small hikeable mountain just 15 min walk from my apartment), I have a greater appreciation for the outdoors that I will look to satisfy when I get back to Massachusetts.
