Exploring potential academic and career pathways in Copenhagen, Denmark
Allison '27, an electrical engineering and computer science major, did a summer internship at the Nano-Science Center at the University of Copenhagen. She researched the stability of SMILES nanoparticles of fluorescent dyes, working on preventing the energy transfer between two different types of dyes.
"I joined Professor Laursen's and Professor Chen's group at the University of Copenhagen as a student researcher this summer. My UROP experience and content I learned from my classes at MIT (including both discovery courses and GIRs) provided me with a background in the fundamental lab skills necessary for my work this summer. It served as a strong foundation for me to learn additional research techniques, including MATLAB, which I learned this summer."
For her project, Allison experimented with changing different parameters in the nanoparticle preparation process and analyzed data gathered from spectroscopy instruments using MATLAB.
"This summer in MISTI-Denmark was an incredibly memorable experience for me that allowed me to explore potential academic and career pathways that align with my interests, all the while getting to explore a new country and connect with the people there. My MISTI experience has inspired me to take on my studies with a sense of direction, and the global connections I've made with coworkers have been very meaningful to me."
