"This summer, I interned at the Centro Integral Oncológico at HM Sanchinarro in Madrid, completing a clinical rotation with Dr. Luka Mihic. I experienced firsthand how the center both works to improve hyper-early diagnosis of some of the deadliest forms of cancer and approaches end-of-life care with compassion and dignity. I gained many insights on Spain’s nationalized healthcare system, and I was struck by the cultural emphasis on familial presence, warmth, and compassion in patient care."

"Interning at a large urban hospital in Taiwan this summer introduced me to the community department’s initiatives to educate the public, particularly the elderly, about common diseases and ways to maintain their health. It was amazing to see doctors taking time out of their busy days to speak with residents about symptoms and treatments for conditions such as macular degeneration. I loved being a part of their programs, even if I was just greeting the elderly and conducting exit surveys, because I could see firsthand the hospital’s impact in raising awareness about health issues that many residents might not have known about before."
