"Through the internship, I think I learned a lot about the work and the fields that I am interested/not interested in. Because I really enjoyed this experience, I will also definitely look more into the opportunities abroad that MIT provides."

My host was Cyber University, a relatively small (~50 employees) company located in Tokyo. Cyber University was really two different operations– one was a fully functional private online universities with students from all over Japan. Another half of the company was developing a learning management system and some other tools to facilitate the creating of learning material. The president is an MIT alum, and is working closely with current MIT professors on providing/testing this learning management system for MIT.

I was working with the Systems Team at Cyber University. More specifically, my project was to replace the Flash video recording tool with another plug-in free communications system, WebRTC, to prepare for the eventual discontinuation of Flash in leading browsers. Though there was no direct application of skills/material that I learned at MIT to the work that I was doing, some of the good practices I learned and previous experiences I had in classes at MIT (for example, 6.031 Software Construction) turned out to be very helpful.
