Intern Spotlight: Esha Ranade

As our Summer internships draw to a close, we wanted to take some time to feature our incredible students and their work over the Summer. First up is Sophomore Esha Ranade (Computer Science & Engineering ‘24).

Esha grew up in Orlando, Florida, but her family originally hails from Gujarat, India. “I thought studying with MIT-India would be a great opportunity to connect to my Indian roots,” said Esha, “and work towards a good cause.”

Esha worked with Bloom Nepal this Summer, a foundation that, founded by MIT alumni, aims to increase accessibility to K-12 education across Nepal. “My main focus was creating a course to help high school students prepare for math competitions, with the ultimate goal of strengthening Nepal's national team for the International Math Olympiad,” said Esha.

For Esha, the relationships she developed at Bloom Nepal were some of the most rewarding aspects of the intern experience. “The personal connections I made with my team members were very rewarding to me; they would often call me ‘Esha diju,’ which they once explained was a Nepali phrase for ‘my beloved sister’,” Esha told us.

Esha’s advice to those considering studying with MIT-India? “It's a truly enriching experience to explore a different culture and work on a project that directly affects the lives of others ~ definitely go for it!”
