President José Maria Neves to visit MIT

His Excellency Mr. José Maria Neves, President of the Republic of Cabo Verde visit to MIT will take place within the framework of the second annual webinar series focusing on various aspects of sustainable development in Africa, organized by the Center for International Studies (CIS) and the MIT Africa Program in partnership with TRUE Africa University (TAU). This series are known as TAU x MIT.
Starting on March 23, 2023 for seven weeks, TAU founder, MIT alumnus, and CIS research affiliate Claude Grunitzkywill interview thinkers, shapers, and doers for the future of Africa. As part of this series, President Neves would participate in a live conversation in a fireside chat type format.
This event will be hybrid, having both a live audience and online participants, and open to the public. The topic would be e-governance, which is an area of great expertise for President Neves and a topic of interest to the MIT community.
About President José Maria Neves
His Excellency José Maria Neves, is currently President of the Republic of Cabo Verde.Neves was born on the island of Santiago and became interested in politics as a teenager. He graduated at the School of Business Administration of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation in São Paulo, Brazil. José Maria Neves was Prime Minister and Head of the Government from February 2001 to April 2016. He presided over the PAICV - Partido Africano da Independência de Cabo Verde (African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde), having won three national legislative elections.
