Like every part of an MIT education, a MISTI experience requires important training and careful preparation. Be sure to complete these important steps to prepare yourself for a safe and successful trip—so you’ll be ready to make the most of your incredible time abroad.

Attend your country's Prep & Training sessions

These sessions cover essential topics such as cultural awareness, current events, technology and innovation in the host country, navigating the workplace or academic environment, logistics and safety. Remember, MISTI cultural preparation sessions are mandatory for our participants. Plus, there's pizza!

We want you to have the safest, healthiest travel experience you can. This information will be covered in detail by your program manager.

Register for your trip

Per MIT's policy, you MUST register your trip information, flights, and emergency contact prior to departure at MIT’s Travel Registry. Your Program Manager will communicate the deadline to do so. This information will be used by MIT in case of an emergency.

Register your travel plans

Register your travel plans with the STEP program of the U.S. Department of State if you are a U.S. citizen. (If you are not a U.S. citizen, you can also enroll your email to receive messages but be sure to register with your local consulate or embassy upon arrival in country.)
