Looking Back: Puneeth Meruva

As part of our ongoing work to highlight past interns, let’s look back at Puneeth Meruva (Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, ‘18), who interned with Microsoft through MIT-India in 2016!

Puneeth worked in Bangalore over the summer of 2016 on a project with Microsoft to monitor and improve traffic conditions in the city. Working with their Mobility, Networks, and Systems group, he was able to help develop advanced control systems to monitor traffic flow and driver behavior with embedded sensors in smartphones and automobile computers. Puneeth also worked to develop an AI driven bot to provide a user interface for car passengers via Facebook Messenger, allowing them to contribute to the data pool. This information is highly valuable in the ongoing quest to modernize and improve traffic flow and conditions in many urban environments.

Reflecting on his experience in India, Puneeth had this to say: “This was an immensely valuable experience for me. All in all, [MIT-India] was a life-changing experience that has done wonders for me personally and career-wise, and I am sure will continue to do so for a long time.”

We want to thank Puneeth for his time with MIT-India, and wish him well in all his current and future endeavors!
