MIT’s Senior Lecturer in Russian language Maria Khotimsky has won the prestigious student-nominated Teaching with Digital Technology Award for faculty and instructors who have used digital technology to improve teaching and learning for MIT.Dr. Khotimsky was one of 23 winners out of 230 nominees.

A Zoom celebration took place on June 3, 2021 to recognize and applaud all the winners.

Russian language was re-launched at the Institute in 2012 following sixteen years of absence from the MIT curriculum. Currently, MIT students can enroll in Russian I-V and add a class on Russian literature with an option for advanced language learners. Russian V was piloted in 2020 with the focus on vocabulary in science and technology.

Dr. Khotimsky plays an active role in the MIT-Russia program by offering training to MIT students traveling to Russia for internships or research. “We are incredibly lucky to have Maria as part of our Russia team at MIT,” said Professor of Russian History, Faculty Co-Director of MIT Russia Elizabeth Wood.  “She makes the Russian language come alive.  Students are constantly singing her praises. It’s wonderful that she is winning this award.”
