MIT's international education program, MIT International Science & Technology Initiatives (MISTI), encourages MIT students to take their knowledge and skills abroad and connect with top international partners. Through MISTI's tailored internship, research, and teaching experiences, students and hosts can contribute to innovative solutions together.

Working with an intern can be a rewarding and beneficial experience for both the organization and the interns themselves. MIT interns bring new ideas, enthusiasm, and creativity to their work. They possess up-to-date knowledge about emerging trends and technologies and offer unique perspectives that can invigorate your team's problem-solving approaches.

By providing internship opportunities, your company/lab demonstrates a commitment to investing in the next generation's professional development and strengthening the connection between MIT and Israel.

Host a MIT Student

MISTI recruits qualified student candidates and matches them with a tailored internship or research experience in Israel. MISTI offers rigorous training for students to prepare them for work in Israel.

The program also handles all logistics for each student including:

  • Securing accommodation
  • Booking flights and other travel arrangements
  • Providing medical insurance and emergency services

Internship projects are designed to align the skills and interests of the student with the needs of the host. Priority placement is given to MIT students with technical knowledge, relevant experience, and language skills.

MISTI aims to partner with enthusiastic partners who share our passion for creating a better world.

  • You and your team will have the opportunity to work firsthand with MIT students and gain privileged access to MIT’s research community
  • Your team will gain valuable exposure to MIT’s hands-on learning and teaching methods
  • MIT students make meaning contributions to your research; in fact, many MIT students have created patent-winning work, written academic articles and created new technologies during their MISTI internships
  • You’ll help extend MIT’s mission to your country, while promoting the global advancement of STEM studies.

Hosts are expected to provide a challenging project for students and to oversee their progress throughout the internship. Student interns require a workspace and a supervisor. The majority of hosts provide a stipend to cover internship costs.

Fall: Student candidates apply, interview with program managers, submit materials, and tailor applications for hosts.

Winter: Candidates participate in zoom interviews with hosts and internship placements are offered.

Spring: Logistical arrangements (visa, housing, airfare) and preparation sessions on workplace and culture.

Summer: Projects commence. Typical summer internships last for 10-12 weeks.

“Young, brilliant and highly motivated students coming to learn and work on a short term, well-defined project.”

-Efrat Kohen, Mekorot
