Presenting, the winners of the 2024 summer photo contest - AI category!

MISTI had five photo contest categories; four of five represent the critical impact areas such as climate and sustainability, health, artificial intelligence, and social impact

Winners of the artificial intelligence category

Arthur De La Santos '26

Arthur De La Santos '26, computer science and engineering major, interned at Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico.

Overlooking the vibrant landscape of Monterrey, I see a vast, intricate city that mirrors the complexity and potential of the quantum world. At Tecnológico de Monterrey, under Dr. César Vargas-Rosales, I explored the nuances of modern qubit encodings and developed deep learning architectures, pushing the boundaries of quantum error mitigation. Just as this view stretches beyond the horizon, so does Mexico's innovative spirit in shaping the future of AI and quantum computing.

Amy Shi '26

Amy Shi '26, mechE major, interned in the UK with Robosys Automation's autonomous software in boats. "Some of them included helping test the electrical system they were providing to their client, designing a junction box for cable management, and writing a user interface to help debug a controller," Amy explained.

Ana Tejeda '27, mechE and CS & engineering major.

"Wrapping up an incredible 3 months at UTEC Ventures! This summer, I had the privilege of facilitating the formation of Joint Ventures, creating a collection of digital tools to guide founders from ideation to prototyping, teaching entrepreneurship to college students in Huánuco, and developing an AI assistant for UTEC sectors and events.

This experience has been transformative on both a professional and personal level. I want to give my deepest thanks to MIT International Science & Technology Initiatives (MISTI) for this incredible opportunity, my supervisor Luis Enrique Flórez Parodi for pushing me to grow while allowing me the creative freedom to explore, and the entire UTEC Ventures team for being such an inspiring and supportive group.

I’m thrilled to continue collaborating remotely and eagerly await the outcome of your first LATAM FEST, the largest construction convention in Latin America, this November. Me enamoré del trabajo, la gente, y el país, y lo extrañaré mucho! Chau, Perú."
